Welcome to the official blog for Firebird Studios Cosmetic Artistry and Photography! I'm a little new to the blog scene, I'll admit, but I'm really excited to share this journey with everyone.
Since I'm new here, I suppose I'll start by outlining who I am, exactly. Here we go!
My name is Amy Vidler. I am a twenty one (almost twenty two) year old photographer and makeup artist. I was born in the UK in 1991 (England, baby!), spent 16 years in the USA, and now currently reside in New South Wales, Australia, with my wonderful husband James.
As far as my career goes, I'm currently working on obtaining my cosmetology license, and have been a photographer since the beginning of 2008. My very first camera was an Olympus Stylus point-and-shoot (lime green!), and since then, I've graduated to a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS (after going through a couple more point-and-shoots :p). I hope to be moving up sooner to a Mark III, but until then, I'll keep my trusty Rebel with me. :)
I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome four years ago, but my symptoms have been plaguing me since I was fifteen. PCOS is a genetic disorder that affects the ovaries, and stems from the overproduction of male hormones in the system. Why am I sharing this? Because this diagnoses sparked the start of my cosmetology career. When my hormones started to spiral out of control and all the bullying started, I began coming home and experimenting with makeup as a way of expressing my feelings. It was then that I realised I don't need makeup to look or feel beautiful. I can use it to express myself artisticly. Makeup is a tool for many things, not just for making people look pretty. Beauty comes from within, and it's up to each individual person, man or woman, to let that shine in their own unique way.
Stay positive!
Much love,
- Amy
